The centenary of the garden city Hellerau was the occasion for the foundation of a network, which offers representatives of garden cities the opportunity for international contact and exchange in the future.
The network was launched on June 8, 2008, following the international conference "100 Years of Hellerau - History and Sustainability of the Garden City Idea" on the initiative of the association Bürgerschaft Hellerau e.V. with the participation of representatives from seven other garden cities. The foundation was supported by the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony and the Institute for Building History, Architectural Theory and Monument Preservation (IBAD) of the TU Dresden.
